WELLPREN®ELASTOMER: CM SERIES

Chlorinated polyethylene (CM) is a heat-, weather-, and oil-resistant elastomer that has been used for many years in wires and cables, hoses, automotive, and industrial parts. Its unique combination of heat and oil resistance makes it an ideal choice for various applications. Additionally, due to high cost and availability concerns, CM is increasingly replacing traditional materials like CR in many industrial hoses. CM is also increasingly used as a substitute for some conventional materials because it provides superior heat aging and excellent ozone resistance, enhancing the performance of final products.

By using HDPE with different molecular weights and molecular weight distributions and adjusting the production process, Sundow produces many types of WELLPREN® CM elastomers. Currently, there are 11 commercially available types with varying chlorine contents and Mooney viscosities suitable for different applications and processing conditions.

Automotive and Industrial Hoses:
WELLPREN® CM exhibits excellent temperature resistance, oil resistance, chemical resistance, ozone resistance, and weatherability. It is therefore widely used in automotive hoses, including oil tubes, coolant distribution tubes, hydraulic steering tubes, and other rubber hose outer layers. It is also used in automotive vacuum and ventilation hoses. Hoses carrying oil and chemicals represent a rapidly growing market.

Wires and Cables:
WELLPREN® CM is commonly used in insulation layers of oil-resistant parallel flexible wires (e.g., HPN cables), sheaths for flexible wires or cables for electrical appliances (electric heaters, cooking appliances, air conditioners, and refrigerators), sheaths for various light, medium, and heavy cables, mining cables, marine cables, and locomotive cables, as well as insulation layers or sheaths for power, tool, and control cables. Its excellent performance-to-cost ratio and long room-temperature storage of the vulcanizate make it a preferred material.

Special Rubber Products:
Thanks to WELLPREN® CM’s superior heat, oil, chemical, and aging resistance, it can be used in the production of special rubber products such as seals, pads, and gaskets.

The use of WELLPREN® CM together with other rubbers like EPDM, NBR, and BR not only reduces production costs but also compensates for performance shortcomings of other compounds.

Applications in Magnetic Materials:
WELLPREN® CM has a very high filler capacity for ferrite magnetic powders. Magnetic rubber products made from WELLPREN® CM exhibit excellent low-temperature performance and are widely used in applications such as refrigerator sealing strips and magnetic cards. Magnetic components for electromagnetic products can also be manufactured using WELLPREN® CM for their thermal resistance. (e.g., refrigerator sealing strips, magnetic rubber rings in computers and micro-motors).
